Modi said that it was no wonder that the US favoured Pakistan; Bal Thackeray, Venkaiah Naidu join in the chorus.
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi was in the city on Saturday, and he had one agenda — to flog his favourite whipping boy, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
Without naming him, Modi alleged that he is responsible for US’s pro-Pakistan stand, and that Gandhi had been providing information to the US leadership about the situation in India and Pakistan.
Modi said that he had been wondering for years why the US always favoured Pakistan, but that he now has the answer after whistle-blower website WikiLeaks’ disclosure about the remarks by Rahul Gandhi.
“The entire world is convinced about the key role Pakistan plays in promoting terrorism across the world. The country’s biggest export industry is terrorists. They are trained in Pakistan and Muslim youths in India are misguided in the name of religion by them,” he said. “Now I know who is behind prompting the US about Pakistan. This has been a major loss to the security of our country.”
Modi was in the city as the chief guest of the Giant International Convention held at a hall in Dadar. When the media asked him about his stand on WikiLeaks’ recent release in which Rahul has reportedly said that radicalised Hindu groups can prove to be more dangerous than outfits like Lashkar-E-Taiba, Modi expressed strong views while refusing to name the person at whom his allegations were directed.
In a conversation between Rahul and US envoy Timothy Roemer, the former has allegedly said that radicalised Hindu groups pose a bigger threat to the country than leading terrorist groups like LeT.
Modi was joined by senior Bharatiya Janta Party leader and in-charge of Maharashtra, Venkaiah Naidu, who said that the Congress general secretary was talking the Pakistan’s language. He said that the statements of the Congress leaders, including Digvijay Singh and P Chidambaram, in last few days are a part of a systematic agenda they have chalked out.
Naidu said that the remarks by Congress leaders have strengthened the case of Pakistan and weakened India’s fight against terrorism. Digvijay Singh first spoke about the Batla House encounter then he raised doubts about slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare’s death in 26/11 terror attack. “Such irresponsible talk is against the spirit of the country,” he said.
In a similar reaction, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray questioned Rahul’s credentials for commenting on Hindu terrorism and advised him “not to act too smart”. “Who is Rahul Gandhi,” he demanded, adding that he need not point out Rahul’s “Italian connections”.
Thackeray also warned the Congress leader against attacking Hindus, saying that failure to do so would mean that “they would retaliate and tackle him by the horns”.
