Online forums are buzzing with chatter about similarities between Ali Abbas Zafar’s upcoming release Gunday starring Arjun Kapoor-Ranveer Singh and the 2012 Oliver Stone release Savages starring Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson.

Set in the 70s, the Gunday promo is testosterone laden with Ranveer and Arjun playing gun couriers who grow up to become notorious coal smugglers. Of course there’s also a common love interest in the form of cabaret dancer Nandita played by Priyanka Chopra.

Let’s take a closer look at the similarities between Gunday and Savages.

Both the movies are set against the backdrop of the mafia. In case of Savages lead actors — Taylor and Aaron — are essaying characters who are marijuana dealers and get into trouble with the mafia. In Gunday Arjun and Ranveer are gun couriers who work for an underground nexus.

Both the films have the lead actors as two friends and showcase the evolution of their friendship over a period of time. Like Arjun and Ranveer in Gunday, both Aaron and Taylor play two friends who end up in the big bad world of crime due to circumstances.

The biggest similarity is the two men romancing the same girl. In Savages both the actors fall for Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, while in Gunday the boys are seen obsessing over Priyanka.

The promos of both the film have one common trait — they begin with a flashback narration later going into the present day story line.
