Well, the scenes that they were enacting on the screen was supposed to show them keeping a vrat — which also involved fasting. Sources say that the girls decided to fast for one day and for the rest of the four days, they only had food after sunset.

It's actually a Gujrati tradition for young unmarried girls to observe this vrat in order to find a good match.
