Jahnavi is making news in Kollywood and is all set for a career in films. We speak to her about her new avatar and her switch from theatre to the big screen.
Actor Jahnavi Kamath has been receiving rave reviews for her recently-released film, Oththa Veedu, and she’s super excited. “The movie is doing pretty well! I’ve been getting a lot of compliments for my role,” Jahnavi smiles and opens the
interview.
The film that released on March 30 is running into its third week and Jahnavi couldn’t have asked for more. A graduate in Journalism from Christ College in Bangalore, Jahnavi never
assumed films would become such an intrinsic part of her life.
With quite the repertoire in the Bangalore theatre scene, Jahnavi has made her presence felt in Kollywood and is equally excited about her upcoming projects. “Pudiya Kavyam and Chitranna will release soon and although I haven’t signed on any new projects, I’m still in the process of finalising two to three projects,” she says.
Ask her about her role in the movie and she says it’s a complete contrast to her personality. However, a challenging role is what she’s looking for. “The content of the movie is extremely important. I prefer stories that are different from the regular song and dance,” adds the actor.
Language is not a barrier for Jahnavi, as she’s open to doing any kind of film. She plans to stick to her ‘base’ in the Tamil industry, Bollywood being nowhere in the near future, “As of now, I’m focusing on what I have at hand and my upcoming releases,” says Jahnavi.
Comfortable in her new avatar, Jahnavi agrees that she finds films more difficult in terms of getting into the character and being able to retain its essence. “There’s a lot more to think about while shooting for a movie. It takes time to get used to it. Close up shots usually imposes a lot of restriction with body movements, this is not the case with theatre,” she says.
Looking back at her first acting stint in a short film, she is grateful to the director for giving her plenty of scope to showcase her talent.
Jahnavi has come a long way since then, with many endeavours to look forward to; one being an art film she recently signed.
“I’m excited about doing this movie. It’s going to be something different, although I can’t reveal much about it now,” she adds
before signing off.
