Washington Sundar and T Natarajan impressed on their debuts in the Brisbane Test against Australia. Washington Sundar took three wickets, including the massive wicket of Steve Smith for 36. The wicket of Steve Smith was special as that was Washington Sundar’s first wicket in Tests and the fact that it came off the best Test batsman in the world was even more special. His Tamil Nadu counterpart T Natarajan also impressed with pace and bounce as he too took three wickets. His big wicket was of Marnus Labuschagne for 108 as he got India right back in the contest. The exploits of Washington Sundar and T Natarajan resulted in a very funny connection to a popular TV show as cricket fans on social media had a field day.

In one of the tweets, Washington Sundar and T Natarajan were linked to two very famous characters in the popular TV show Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma. In that tweet, Washington Sundar was linked to the character of Sundar played by Mayur Vakani, the brother of Disha Vakani and the brother-in-law of Jethalal played by Dilip Joshi. T Natarajan, who is also nicknamed Nattu, was linked to the character of Nattu Kaka played by Ghanshyam Nayak who works in Jethalal’s electronic store.

Stellar show

The Indian cricket team headed into the Brisbane Test with a combined Test experience of just six Tests. Mohammed Siraj was playing his third Test while Shardul Thakur was playing his first Test since 2018. Navdeep Saini made his debut in Sydney and he too suffered an injury. In his absence, T Natarajan and Washington Sundar bowled with heart and tremendous courage as they were not over-awed by the situation.

Australia was all out for 369 and they would be hoping that their bowling line-up, which has over 1000 wickets combined, can restrict the Indian batting and give them the chance to take back the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a period of six years. Australia has not won a single series against India ever since their win in the 2014/15 series where they won 2-0 thanks to wins in Adelaide and Brisbane. Australia has not lost at Brisbane for the last 32 years.
