The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might recall former Indian leg-spinner and coach Anil Kumble for the head coach post, along with the former Indian batsman VVS Laxman after the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 when Ravi Shastri's tenure ends.

While Shastri has made his intentions clear hinting at him stepping down after the T20 World Cup, BCCI has started looking at the options for the top job from November.

Talking to the news agency PTI, a BCCI source on condition of anonymity said, "Anil Kumble's exit needs course correction. The manner in which the CoA succumbed to the pressure of Kohli and removed him, wasn't the best example set. However, it also depends on whether Kumble or Laxman are ready to apply for the job."

Kumble was Team India's head coach for a period of one year before he resigned following the 2017 Champions Trophy. The 50-year old is currently the head coach at Punjab Kings in the IPL for two years now.

VVS Laxman, who has been Sunrisers Hyderabad's mentor for a few years is also reportedly looked at as another option.

As per the report, an Indian coach is a priority while a foreign coach remains the second option.
