After a close game in the first of the three-match T20I series, New Zealand gave an authoritative performance in all the three departments of the game against the West Indies in the 2nd game to take an unassailable lead of 2-0.

On the back of Glenn Phillips' marauding fastest T20I ton for a New Zealand batsman and a good hand from Devon Conway, the Kiwis amassed 238 runs at the Bay Oval, on Sunday, after Windies skipper Kieron Pollard put them into bat.

Astonishing Batting Display

New Zealand got off to a blazing start with openers Tim Seifert and Martin Guptill got the strike rotation and boundaries moving constsantly. Oshane Thomas broke the 49-run partnership sending Seifert back in the shed.

West Indies got both the New Zealand openers by the 7th over and were in the game till the 9th over at 70-2. But after that it was sheer carnage at the scenic Mount Maunganui stadium.

The left-hander Devon Conway, who made his international debut in the first game played second fiddle to Glenn Phillips as the duo just kept smashing everything towards or over the boundary.

The real start of the hitting was in the 13th over, where Phillips took medium pacer Keemo Paul in his arc, smashing a six and two fours. After which, Phillips just became unstoppable. Another huge over came, just a couple of overs later where Phillips hit 3 sixes and a four to accumulate 24 of the Fabian Allen over.

Windies bowlers didn't have any clue to the Phillips assault as he got 24 runs of the Sheldon Cottrell over and Conway from the other end, took the centre stage in the 18th over as he hit two sixes and as many fours in the Keemo Paul over.

Both reached their respective milestones as the duo stitched a 184-run partnership in just 81 balls, thereby giving the Windies a massive 239 runs to chase.

Phillips hit his century off just 46 deliveries, one ball faster than that of Colin Munro and the 10th fastest in the world. He was dismissed on the penultimate ball of the innings after scoring 108 off just 51 balls

A response that wasn't

Chasing a huge total, West Indies never looked like challenging the target as their innings never got going as they lost both the openers Brandon King and Andre Fletcher in the 4th over with just 28 runs on the board.

Shimron Hetmyer and Kyle Mayers stitched a brief partnership of 32 runs but it could not continue for long. Nicholas Pooran gave away his wicket in attempt to go for the second six after hitting the first ball of Mitchell Santner's over out of the ground.

Kieron Pollard and Keemo Paul hit a few lusty blows, but the asking rate of 17-18 runs per over was always going to be tough. New Zealand won the game pretty comfortably in the end by 72 runs.

This West Indies' 4th loss in their last five games against New Zealand player here, with one being washed out. The men in maroon will be hoping to change the record and end the series on a high.

The two teams will meet for the final game at the same venue on Monday.
