Meet man who heads Rs 68,307 crore company, started his career as executive trainee, not from IIT, IIM

He holds a degree in Bachelor of Commerce. He joined the company in June 1991 as an executive trainee.

There are several successful CEOs and MDs of a company who started their career with ground-level positions. But with their hard work and persistence, they reached the top position in the company. One such person is YS Chakravarti, who is the Managing Director and CEO of Shriram Finance Limited (SFL). 

The company is part of the Shriram Group and is one of India’s leading NBFCs. Chakravarti started his career in Shriram Chits Private Limited, Andhra Pradesh (‘Shriram Chits’) in June 1991 as an executive trainee. But today, he heads SFL which has a market capitalisation of Rs 68,307 crore as of August 19, 2023.

The share price of the company was Rs 1,820 on Friday. SFL has 7.54 Million (as on June 30, 2023) private and corporate customers across India. Chakravarti holds a degree in Bachelor of Commerce. In 1998, he rose to the position of Chief Executive of Shriram Chits and was promoted to the position of Executive Director of Shriram Chits in March 2004. 

He was instrumental in achieving manifold expansion of the branch network business of Shriram Chits with a 35,000 customer base and auction turnover of Rs 40 crore per annum. In 2008, he was promoted to take charge as Executive Director of erstwhile Shriram City Union Finance Limited (SCUF), initially as Business Head for financing the purchase of two-wheelers in Andhra Pradesh. SFL offers credit solutions for commercial vehicles, two-wheeler loans, car loans, home loans, gold loans, personal and small business loans.
