IndiGo, SpiceJet offer yet another round of fare slash

SpiceJet and IndiGo have announced yet another round of fare cuts as part of their monsoon sale in order to stimulate demand.

IndiGo and SpiceJet, leading low cost carriers (LCCs) in India, have remained in the forefront this year for offering attractive fares to the customers in order to ensure advance bookings, as the competition is set to intensify with the entry of players.

SpiceJet this year has come out with at least 12-13 various schemes. Both carriers introduced discount on fares under their monsoon sales for travel between June 30 to December 15 this year, across India. The period covers festival season like Durga Puja and Diwali, which is generally the peak season for airlines.

The airlines are offering fares as low as Rs 1,999, depending on routes. For example, Delhi-Indore on IndiGo is Rs 1,999, while Mumbai-Goa on SpiceJet is Rs 2,000, while Hyderabad-Mumbai IndiGo ticket will cost even lower at Rs 1,499 and Mumbai-Bangalore is Rs 2,000 (fares are subject to change on certain dates and routes).

"To encourage travel in the post-monsoon season, SpiceJet and Indigo have announced a promotional sale. A popular route like Delhi-Goa is on offer at Rs 1,999 (one way) while the spot-fare for the same route is Rs 11,253. These offers will not only help travellers plan their Puja holidays but also post-October breaks.

With fare-validity window falling in the winter holiday season, we expect travellers will use this opportunity to upgrade from railways and road transport," said Rajesh Magow, co-founder & CEO - India, MakeMyTrip, a travel portal.

The bookings are open till June 30.

With the entry of AirAsia India, the existing carriers are offering best prices, in order to grab additional seats. The Malaysian LCC is expected to go pan India by the end of this year.
