Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is known for her flawless beauty and the former Miss World is counted among the most beautiful women not only in India but in the world. It seems that this was also one of the reasons why director Ashutosh Gowariker chose Aishwarya for the iconic role of Queen Jodhaa in his film Jodhaa Akbar. To bring life to this important character, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was made to wear real jewelry by Gowariker and because of these ornaments, she looked absolutely royal in the film.

The jewelry worn by Aishwarya Rai in the film Jodhaa Akbar was made of real gold, pearls and other precious metals. According to media reports, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore 200 kg gold ornaments. A total of 70 artisans were pressed into service to design her Aishwarya’s ornaments. In order to ensure the safety of the ornaments and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, 50 guards were hired to take care of her safety.

After the success of Jodhaa Akbar, Aishwarya’s look became so famous that similar jewelry became fashion trend across India. Released in 2008, Jodhaa Akbar proved to be a huge hit. Apart from Aishwarya Rai, Hrithik Roshan was in the lead role in this period film. Beside Aishwarya and Hrithik, Ila Arun, Sonu Sood and Poonam Sinha also played important roles in the film. Jodhaa Akbar was released on 15 February 2008 and became the third highest grossing Hindi film of 2008. At the 56th National Film Awards, it won two awards for Best Choreography (Chinni Prakash and Rekha Prakash for "Azeem-o-Shaan Shahenshah") and Best Costume Design (Neeta Lulla).
