A supply chain analyst has predicted that Apple may stop production for the iPhone 12 mini due to poor demand. The iPhone 12 mini was released in September 2020 alongside the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max that are speculated to have a comparatively better market performance.

William Yang, a JP Morgan Chase supply chain analyst, in a note to its investors noted that production for the iPhone 12 mini priced at Rs 65,900 might be discontinued by the second quarter of 2021.

The supply chain analyst reportedly cut the production expectations of the iPhone 12 mini by as much as 11 million units.

Now, discontinuation doesn't mean that the iPhone 12 will be completely off the market shelves as there could still be enough inventory for the phone to be available for some time.

Yang also reported that the iPhone 12 production expectations have also been reduced by nine million. Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 11 production is speculated to grow by two million and eight million units, respectively.

According to market research firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), the iPhone 12 mini attracted only six percent of total iPhone sales during October and November 2020.

Apple had launched the iPhone 12 mini as a solution for people who were looking for a small-size flagship iPhone. It shares many similarities with the iPhone 12 despite a smaller display and shorter battery life.

Apple iPhone 12 mini is the smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G smartphone in the world. The Cupertino-based firm has redesigned this smartphone to pack all the technology of iPhone 12 into a compact device while keeping an edge-to-edge display.

In terms of display, the iPhone 12 mini comes with a 5.4-inch display, while the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 Pro share the same 6.1-inch display and the iPhone 12 Pro Max has the largest in the series, a 6.7-inch display.

William Yang mentioned that 2021 will have four new devices and all of them will feature better battery life, camera enhancements, and a smaller notch design.

Yang also predicted that for the 2021 iPhone lineup, Apple's supply chain partners are building 80 to 90 million units of iPhones.
