Spain made history by winning the Women's World Cup for the first time, triumphing over England with a 1-0 victory in the final on Sunday.

The decisive goal came in the 29th minute, courtesy of Captain Olga Carmona. Seizing the opportunity after England lost possession in midfield, Spain swiftly launched a counterattack, with Carmona expertly drilling the ball into the net from the left side of the area.

Spain's dominance continued, and their relentless pressure led to a penalty being awarded just after the hour mark. Midfielder Keira Walsh's handball prompted the referee to point to the spot. However, England's goalkeeper, Mary Earps, showcased her skills by diving to her left and saving Jennifer Hermoso's penalty kick.

In an attempt to turn the tide, England coach Sarina Wiegman made several strategic substitutions, including bringing on forward Lauren James. Despite their efforts, England failed to find an equalizer, allowing Spain to cling on to their lead and secure their first major title.

In front of an impressive crowd of over 76,000, this victory against England holds significant meaning for Jorge Vilda and the Spanish Football Federation. Despite facing opposition from approximately 15 players last year who expressed their reluctance to play under his leadership, Vilda's perseverance has paid off.

Following in the footsteps of Germany, USA, Norway, and Japan, Spain has now become the fifth country and the third European nation to claim victory in the Women's World Cup since its inception in 1991.
