Armymen sweep Thane Marathon

Armymen dominated the 20th Thane Varsha (Monsoon) Marathon as nine of them finished in the top-10 of the men’s full marathon (42.195km) on Sunday
morning.

Deepchand Saharan of Army Sports Institute (ASI) came first with a timing of 2 hours, 27 minutes and four seconds, followed by teammates Santosh (2:31.06) and Rajkumar Singh (2:36.06). The event was flagged off by MNS chief Raj Thackeray.

Deepchand’s timing was 12 minutes behind the national record set by Late Shivnath Singh (2:15.59) and nearly seven minutes behind the meet record, held by Durga Oran.
Kavita Raut of the Bhosla Military won the women’s half marathon, clocking one hour 17 minutes and 39 seconds. In the mixed relay, the first place went to Western Railway (2.27.43), second to Team A of the Army Sports Institute of Pune (2.32) and third position to Team B of the same institute.
