Twin township to get 160 CCTV cameras

After Jungli Maharaj Road serial explosions, police dept requests civic body to install them.

Though much delayed, in a knee-jerk reaction to the Jungli Maharaj Road blasts, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will be installing closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) at various busy places and chowks. PCMC general body meeting was also adjourned on Friday on account of the Pune serial explosions.

As per the request of the police department, PCMC has decided to install CCTV cameras, and asked for a detailed report from the police department in this regard. Tendering process to purchase the CCTV cameras will begin after the police give their report, said PCMC commissioner Dr Shrikar Pardeshi.

According to civic officials, approximately 160 CCTV cameras will be installed in the twin township, and the PCMC will bear the cost of these CCTV cameras.

Meanwhile, PCMC general body meeting was adjourned on Friday to condemn the Jungli Maharaj road blasts. Participating in a discussion initiated by mayor Mohini Lande on the topic, the corporators condemned the blast and asked PCMC to take extra precautions to ensure safety in the twin towns.

The disaster management cell of PCMC has also started conducting mock drills in schools and public places, informed Om Prakash Bahiwal, the chief coordinator of PCMC disaster management.
