Pune-based entrepreneur Rajendra Hiremath proves to be an inspiration

Pune-based Rajendra Hiremath was born in a farmer’s family. When he was just nine months old, he contracted polio, which resulted in disability. Yet, he went on to become a successful entrepreneur and today employs many people.

He also did his PhD. Rajendra is a source of inspiration to many. In recognition of his efforts, he was presented a national award by president Pratibha Patil in New Delhi on December 3.

“I am elated that I received the award from the president.  The award function focussed on individuals’ achievements,” he said. Rajendra did his doctorate on ‘An analytical study of the projects on build, operate & transfer (BOT) in respect of roads and bridges in Maharashtra.’

He began his business soon after passing Std XII by supplying stationery to industrial units. Next, he bought a sick plastic injection moulding unit in 1986. Rajendra successfully developed new products required by the construction industry, paper mills and the packaging Industry.

He received orders from across the state and also from Karnataka. He began a consultancy in finance and administration in 1995. He entered the renewable energy field with the brand name ‘Xiteej Urja’ in 2002.  At the very beginning, he secured orders worth Rs50 lakh from the government of Goa  to supply and install hybrid systems, using wind and solar power, at the official bungalow of the chief minister, a system at Dona Paula beach and other projects.

A positive attitude, good friends, strong support from his wife and hope made Rajendra achieve the success he desired in life. “I met my wife at an electronics firm, where I worked while studying in college. She was a normal girl who had the courage to marry a person like me against the wishes of her father and
elder brother,” he said.

The Hiremaths are a family of four with two school-going daughters who are normal and proud of their parents.
Rajendra and his family and friends run a book club. He celebrates Diwali at an orphanage. “We want children to be sensitive towards people who are less privileged,” he said, adding that he wanted to devote his life fully towards a social cause in the future.
