Shiv Sena and BJP spat over Girgaum garbage disposal

The relation between Shiv Sena and BJP in south Mumbai has worsened. Local Shiv Sainiks from Girgaum have put up posters blaming local BJP leaders for garbage dumps in the area. The BJP in return has blamed them saying waste management comes under the ambit of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, which is run by Shiv Sena.

The Sena posters have details about how garbage dumps have not been attended for 22 days now. The poster also blames the people for voting the BJP to power and have asked them to approach Sena leaders in their saahas.

Gaurav Sagwekar, a local Shiv Sainik, who made the poster, said, "People of the area regret voting BJP to power; for 22 days, garbage has been lying unattended. This was never the case when Sena corproators were representing the wards of Girgaum. We have opposed our own party corporators when they haven't worked, so why can't we oppose the BJP when it isn't working at all."

Meanwhile, the BJP has turned offensive. Niranjan Shetty, spokesperson for Mumbai BJP, said, "It is good that the Sena is introspecting. They should realise that they run the BMC and should pull up the administration. Blaming the BJP and its leaders won't serve any purpose. They should think about the actions are they questioning; the onus is on their leaders in the BMC."

Girgaum is among the last Marathi belt in south Mumbai and a strong hold of Shiv Sena. Though BMC elections are not taking place any time soon, it wants to consolidate its voter base for the forthcoming MLA and MP elections. While the MP is from Shiv Sena, the MLA is from BJP.
