Mumbai University's Institute of Distance and Open Learning sees rise in female applicants this year

According to data, the number of female students taking admission in the academic year 2017-2018 was 41,513, whereas the boys were 27,179

While the number of students seeking admission in Mumbai University's (MU) Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) has reduced this year, the number of female students are high this year as compared to the previous year, when the number of male candidates was high.

According to data, the number of female students taking admission in the academic year 2017-2018 was 41,513, whereas the boys were 27,179. This year the number of female students taking admission in IDOL is 40,239, which has dipped but remained high compared to male students that are 26,288. The number of male students taking admission in IDOL this year too has dipped.

Last year, the number of students taking admission for IDOL courses in MU was 68,692, which has dipped to 66,535. Out of the total figure this year, one student has taken admission in another category.

An official from Mumbai University said, "The number of girl students taking admission in IDOL is being observed since past two to three years. Maybe most of them are working women and so considering to do distance education. There is not much difference between the total number of students taking admission in last year and this year."
