All patients, who recently formed a part of the country’s biggest domino kidney transplants, were discharged on Thursday with a smile on their lips. This is because here onwards they can lead a life without the pain of having to undergo dialysis on alternate days.
The surgeries were successfully performed in the city last Saturday. The swap procedure, which involved six donors and six recipients, was conducted at three hospitals. Of the six transplant surgeries, three were done at Bombay Hospital and two at Hiranandani Hospital while one was carried out at Hinduja Hospital. Sixty-five doctors pulled off the surgeries.
On January 24, dna reported that the nation’s biggest domino kidney transplants were to take place a day later. Six people were to donate a kidney each to six others. Neither the donors nor the recipients are related to each other. Sharad Yashwatnrao, who donated kidney for his son, was at a loss for words to express his happiness. “It is such a great pleasure... Can’t express it in words,” he said, adding how they were working on this procedure since six months.
Dr Ganesh Sanap, who coordinated the kidney swap registry for this domino kidney transplant, said, “The recipients are doing well and will be discharged in a week.”
