Are you tired of cabbies and auto rickshaw drivers refusing to ferry you? Now, you can instantly pay them back for refusing, by registering a complaint with the toll-free number (1800-22-0110) launched by the state government on Thursday. The government has promised to take action against the such drivers within a fortnight.

Just two days after the city-wide taxi and auto rickshaw strike brought Mumbaikars to their knees, chief minister Ashok Chavan threw open the toll-free number, but also issued a word of caution.

“One must understand that these drivers come from a very poor financial background and more than just punishing them, we also need to upgrade and educate them. I’m happy that the toll-free number is launched, but I hope that it is used with a sense of responsibility,” said Chavan.

Deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal said it was time for the transport department to now take over and do its job. “The responsibility of the transport department has increased manifold with the launch of the toll-free number. If complaints registered are not taken seriously, the public and media will definitely take a note of it,” said Bhujbal.

The passenger has to follow a few simple steps while lodging a complaint. He has to provide the vehicle registration number, type of vehicle, and the date, place and time of the incident. Along with these details, the complainant also has to give his complete address and land-line as well as mobile number. Once the complaint is registered with the toll-free software, the complainant
will get a complaint number.
