Three employees of Sir JJ Hospital in Byculla were arrested on Wednesday by officers of the JJ Marg police station for allegedly molesting a 44-year old woman from Bhiwandi whose son is admitted in the hospital for treatment since the first week of December.
The three employees have been identified as Vinod More, 44, Rahul Tambe, 33, and Prabhakar Surve, 52. While More works as an ambulance driver in the hospital, Tambe and Surve are employed as ward boys.
According to the police, the victim’s 13-year-old son has been admitted in hospital for ulcers on his leg and has been undergoing treatment since almost four weeks.
“The three accused met the worried mother when she was filling water from a water cooler in the hospital premises,” said an officer from the JJ Marg police station. “The accused assured her that they have good contacts with doctors who can help her out,” the officer added.
“On December 14 evening, More spotted the woman filling water near his room and started speaking to her. More promised her that he would help her and called her to his cabin, where he molested her,” said the police officer. Though the woman managed to rush out, she did not complain about the incident in the hope that More will help her in expediting the treatments for his ailing son as she had to travel from Bhiwandi to the hospital everyday.
Meanwhile, the other two accused, allegedly saw More misbehaving with the woman, and decided to also take chances with her. The next day in the morning Tambe and Surve met the woman at the same place and told her that they would introduce her to the doctor. They asked her to come to the sixth floor of the hospital at 10.30pm, where they tried to force her to have sex with them. She was seen running out of the ward, police sources said.
“The complainant filed a complaint with us on December 16. We investigated the case thoroughly and registered a case of molestation against the accused,” said police inspector Suresh Patil, who is investigating the case. The three accused were produced before the Mazgaon metropolitan magistrate court on Wednesday. The complainant’s child is still admitted in the hospital.
