Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has sought an appraisal of his ministerial colleagues ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha and state assembly elections. He has instructed each one of them to present their department's achievement through a power point presentation scheduled on September 24 at the State Sahyadri Guest House. Every ministry will be allocated only 15 minutes to illustrate their gains and pains.

The agenda is clear. The ministers will choose five important decisions taken by their departments and turn them into a powerpoint presentation.

"These five important decisions and its long-term impact have to be described properly in the presentation. The decisions should be people oriented and its impact on the common man should be well-illustrated. The presentation should be supplemented with proper facts and figures. The CM will chair the performance meeting himself. If found failing, the minister will receive an earful on the spot," mentioned a person who is privy to this development on the condition of anonymity.

"The chief secretary, principal secretary, additional chief secretary who will be present for these presentations will also give in their inputs," states the state circular a copy of which is with DNA.

Sources inform that the CM's publicity Czars will also be present during the meeting. Their job would be to study the presentations and pick up mega ideas for generating a media blitz in the favour of the incumbent government.

However, this accountability exercise has not gone down well some of CM's own colleagues.

"As a minister, we were not allowed to take any decision. Most of my department's decisions were stalled by the Chief Minister. If I had no free hand in working, how can he expect me to take major and valuable decisions? In the last four years, we were busy with advertisements and events like 'Make In Maharashtra'. These powerpoint presentations are nothing but the face-saving exercise for us," asked the minister requesting anonymity.

Sachin Sawant, Maharashtra Congress spokesperson said that the BJP-led government in Maharashtra and centre has lost the public trust. "I am sure that the powerpoint presentations are not going to help them. People will teach them a lesson in 2019," said Sawant.
