In order to generate revenue, the cash-strapped Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has planned to lease space on 467 electric poles on five flyovers in south Mumbai and south Central Mumbai for five years. These include JJ Flyover, Phoenix Mills flyover, Worli flyover and Sion flyover. The corporation expects to generate around Rs 38 lakh.
The MSRDC leases space on its several infrastructure projects that include flyovers in the suburbs, Mumbai Pune Expressway and these five flyovers. Of these, 150 poles will be leased on JJ flyover, 72 on Phoenix Mills flyover, 105 on Elphinstone flyover, 27 on Worli flyover and 113 on Sion flyover.
Currently, MSRDC is leasing out space for advertisements on its three toll plazas and three subways. The MSRDC’s commercial department generates around Rs 15 crore from this. Currently, the MSRDC’s outstanding debt is around Rs 4,000 crore.
A MSRDC official said, “Space on these five flyovers will be leased on as-is-where-is basis and as-is-where-is condition for granting permission to display advertisements on the kiosk on electric poles.”
