On Monday, a glimpse of how the Indian Army, Disaster Relief Forces, Rapid Action Force, police and other stakeholders would act in case of a natural calamity, was carried out in the vast grounds of Bhawani Niketan Educational institute located at Sikar Road in Jaipur.

The demonstration was part of a two-day Exercise Raahat that commenced at Army’s Jaipur based South Western Command.

With an aim of synergizing the response from all stake holders, in case of an eventuality, the day’s proceedings included a seminar followed by a table top exercise. Representative from NDMA, NDRF, SDRF, State Emergency Medical and Police agencies and a host of other members participated in the seminar and the table top exercise.

During the later part of the day a demonstration on dealing with an earthquake scenario was conducted, which was witnessed by chief minister Ashok Gehlot, during which teams from the Army, Air Force, NDRF, SDRF, State Police, Rapid Action Force and other stake holders demonstrated their coordinated and synergised efforts.

Scenarios including rescue during earthquake was played along with other natural calamities like fire and floods. The exercise was conducted in pursuance of the directions of prime minister Narendra Modi during Combined Commanders Conference (CCC) in 2015, with an aim to achieve ‘Disaster Resilient India’.

The hour long exercise painted an exact picture of how the various agencies would respond in situations with the disaster relief forces carrying out activities to provide not only assistance to those stranded after a disaster but providing relief through medical facilities as well and rescuing people if needed.

The exercise also aimed at streamlining the jobs of all the stakeholders so that the efforts are quick and easy, ultimately offering timely relief to victims.

CM Gehlot tweeted, “During Annual Joint HADR (Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief) Exercise 2019. I appreciate this effort which is aimed to develop skills for disaster relief operations. It’ll help to mitigate the losses in case of natural disasters like earthquake n in saving precious lives.”
