BJP has named Bhajan Lal Sharma as the new chief minister of Rajasthan. He is a first-time MLA from the Sanganer Assembly constituency. The party returned to power with a thumping majority in the recently concluded elections. The party won 115 seats out of the 199 that went to polls in Rajasthan.

The surprise choice was announced after the newly elected BJP MLAs met here and elected MLA from Sanganer as the leader of its legislature party. At the meeting, the CM-designate's name was proposed by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, who was herself considered to be in the running for the top post. Diya Kumari and Premchand Bairwa have been named as Sharma's two deputies.

Who is Bhajan Lal Sharma?

He is a newly-elected MLA from Sanganer Assembly constituency. He has served as the State General Secretary for the BJP four times. The first-time MLA has been associated with the RSS and the ABVP. Sharma won the Sanganer constituency with a margin of 48,081 votes. 56-year-old belongs to Bharatpur district. He holds a master's degree in political science.
