The exit polls after Gujarat assembly elections suggest BJP heading towards forming the government for once again in the state. The polls in North Gujarat and, especially, in Patel-dominated belt seems to be supporting that.

Mehsana district's six seats are believed to be the Patel bastion in this region and all six had seen a great impact of Hardik Patel-led reservation agitation. However, looking at the exit polls, almost all seats are going to BJP again, except for one surprise.

The BJP had lost two seats Kadi(SC reserved) and Vijapur seats in 2012 but secured rest of four, Mehsana, Unjha, Visnagar and Bechraji. However, the local equations suggest that BJP could wrest these seats from Congress this time after local equations are according to that. The lower voting in young generation is again an indication that the generation which supports Hardik Patel's agenda remained away from polling booths on the 'D-day'.

The basic reason for the Patels rejecting Hardik Patel's agenda was his support to Congress. The voters, after casting votes, were of the opinion that Hardik Patel supporting the Congress was the indication that he was having anti-BJP agenda.

Bharatbhai Patel, a voter from Jornang village in Mehsana district, said, "I supported Hardik Patel and attended every rally and protest programmes he gave. I even joined the protest of BJP leaders in Mehsana aggressively, but as Hardik Patel came out as Congress' agent. He is exposed now and his acts were really disturbing. He has betrayed Patel community and used our community like a tool. We have seen what development BJP has done in Mehsana district and we are happy that our eyes are opened at right time."

Dashrath Patel, a former scientist with ISRO and first IIT graduate in Gujarat said, "Patel community is always pro-development. They initially supported Hardik Patel. Later, when he started favouring Congress many supporters turned faces away from him. I'm also a member of Patel community's social organisation and there are many villages in which people took oath to vote for BJP. In fact, this was the boomerang thrown by Patels in Mehsana after his motive to use community for personal political ambitions was revealed."

The Patel community's religious organisation also played important role in placating them for BJP. The members of Umiya Mata Sansthan in Unjha approached the community through all the means of communication and conveyed them to be with BJP.
