The court of metropolitan magistrate DS Trivedi has ordered Sabarmati police to conduct a probe in connection with burning of religious book of a Pota accused, Mahmood Saiyed, in Sabarmati jail on August 17. The court has asked police to submit the report within 30 days.
Saiyed had complained to the metropolitan magistrate that a Sabarmati jail employee had hurt his religious sentiments by burning his religious book in the jail premises. The Pota accused has been in jail for six years after being arrested in the ISI conspiracy case.
In his complaint to the judge, Mahmood said that the jail employee, Hathisinh, burnt his religious book which he had kept with himself and then abused and assaulted him.
Sources said that after the incident Saiyed had lodged a complaint with the jail superintendent but no action was taken. Later, he informed about it to his father who approached the metropolitan court.
