A major feat is expected to be achieved by the Chandrayaan-3 tomorrow, when the Vikram lander of the space mission will make soft landing on the moon, but the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has revealed that this date could be postponed.

A senior ISRO scientist said that the space organization will only be making soft landing on the moon if the conditions for the same are favorable. If not, then ISRO will be pushing this date by four days and will attempt to land on the moon once again on August 27.

Nilesh M Desai, Director of Space Applications Centre in ISRO, told ANI, “Two hours before Chandrayaan-3 lands on the Moon, we will take a decision on whether or not it will be appropriate to land it at that time based on the health of the lander module and the conditions on the Moon. In case, if any factor appears to be not favourable, then we will land the module on the Moon on August 27.”

While there is a possibility that the Moon landing by ISRO is delayed, the senior scientist said that the schedule for the Vikram lander to reach the lunar surface remains the same. As of now, the Moon landing has been scheduled for tomorrow, August 23.

It is expected that ISRO will make their maiden attempt to land the Vikram lander on the lunar surface a little past 6 pm on August 23. If successful, India will become the fourth country to make soft landing on the moon, after the United States, China, and Russia.

Chandrayaan-3 took off from ISRO’s Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDCC) in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota on July 14 and is an extension of the failed Chandrayaan-2 mission. Till now, all the phases of Chandrayaan-3 have been successful, and ISRO has said that the lander and equipment have not shown any problems so far.
