Girl students of Taruni Sundari Vidyapith were given bicycles under the West Bengal government's Sabooj Sathi scheme.
A large number of boys demanded that they also be given bicycles along with the girls and disrupted the bicycle distribution function, the police said.
The organisers told the boys that they would be given bicycles under the Sabooj Sathi programme from April but they insisted that they given along with the girls.
The organisers then called the police. When the police reached the spot the boys pelted stones at them but the cops chased them away.
Under the Sabooj Sathi scheme bi-cycles are distributed to students from Class IX to XII in all government aided and sponsored schools.
