Starring Vishal and SJ Suryah in the leading roles, the science fiction action comedy Mark Antony has finally been released in the theatres on September 15, and the film has opened to extraordina response from audiences, who have seen the film on its first day of theatrical release itself and called it "blockbuster" on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter.

One netizen wrote, "#MarkAntonyReview - Blockbuster. Theatre went crazy for #SJSuryah & #Vishal performance", while another added, "Mark Antony is a fun entertainer retro style drama with good performance from #Vishal and Terrific outcome from #SJSuryah. Second half is more interesting than first half".

"#MarkAntony (3.5/5) - It's a big surprise from Adhik Ravichandran who turns up with a well written and inventive film using the concept of time travel in yet another unique way. The film stays clear and understandable despite its snake-and-ladder structure, and that's laudable", read another tweet.

Mark Antony has been directed by Adhik Ravichandran, who has previously helmed Trisha Illana Nayanthara, Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan, and Bagheera released in 2015, 2017, and 2023 respectively. The film has been produced by S. Vinod Kumar with music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar.

The film's Hindi dubbed version will be released a week later in cinemas on September 22. In an exclusive interview with indianexpress.com, Vishal was asked what does he think if his movie would be able to attract cinegoers in the Hindi belt with Jawan still running successully in the theatres. The actor responded, "This is the first time I am doing a dual role in 19 years. After 32 films, I get to do two roles in a movie – father and son. It’s a time travel movie. You get a film like this once in five or ten years, which is convincing not only to the city audience but also reaching out to the rural viewers."
