Who has the better heroes, better makers and better chance at the box office? Here's looking at their kitty of films in the next one year
It will be a cinematic war of sorts between Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif in the days to come. Here's a detailed report card of their forthcoming movies.
Deepika Padukone
Finding Fanny
With: Arjun Kapoor
Directed by Homi Adjania
Yay: Cool characters and very modern in outlook and approach is Homi's style. Set in Goa this is the journey of five interesting characters. Predominantly English with a smattering of Konkani Finding Fanny will release on September 12 this year.
Nay: A multiplex film. Will not have appeal across all sections and all ages. Will appeal only to audiences in the metros.
Happy New Year
With: Shah Rukh Khan
Directed by Farah Khan
Will release in Diwali 2014 ( October 24, to be more precise)
Yay: Big ticket, big bonanza. Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan always make magic together. This one might beat the record of Deepika's last film -- Chennai Express -- with SRK. This is expected to set the cash register ringing. It also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah.
Nay: None.
Piku
With: Bengali actor Jisshu sengupta
Directed by Shoojit Sircar
Yay: After getting critical acclaim for Vicky Donor and Madras Café, director Shoojit Sircar has roped in an ensemble cast in Piku. There's Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan too.
Nay: Shoojit films are appreciated but they don't get the audiences to rush to the theatres. They are not money spinners. It might get Dippy critical acclaim though history shows us that Sircar's heroes get more attention than the heroines do. Leading man Jisshu Sengupta who featured in Anurag Basu's Barfi ( Illeana D'cruz's husband) is not a crowd puller.
Window Seat
With: Ranbir Kapoor
Directed by Imtiaz Ali
Yay: Imtiaz Ali. The magic Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika pair.
Nay: Imtiaz Ali makes his films with his heart and not with his head. He will make a film that the actors can always be proud of. Awards for sure. Rewards? Not so sure.
Katrina Kaif
Bang Bang
With: Hrithik Roshan
Directed by Sidharth Anand
Yay: Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan pair up again after Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara. Super chemistry. This action thriller is the remake of the Hollywood Film Knight and Day.
Nay: Most people have already seen the west version starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
Jagga Jasoos
With: Ranbir Kapoor
Directed by Anurag Basu
Yay: Off-screen couple on-screen? Big win. Kat and Ranbir haven't been together for a long time. Lot of curiosity value. Anurag Basu comes back after Rockstar. Both the actor and the director are known for making quality films
Nay: Last time they were together, it didn't happen but Kat needs to make sure RK doesn't overshadow her.
Phantom
With: Saif Ali Khan
Directed by Kabir Khan
Yay: She reunites with her Ek Tha Tiger director. First time jodi with Saif Ali Khan.
Nay: It is set against the 26/11 Mumbai attacks and global terrorism. A subject that's a little overdone. Saif Ali Khan in a spy-thriller yet again after Agent Vinod. Déjà vu, anyone? Kat is playing a photojournalist, hopefully she will have more to do than Nargis Fakhri's blink and miss role as a photojournalist in Madras Café.
Fitoor
With: Aditya Roy Kapur
Directed by Abhishek Kapoor
Yay: Based on The Great Expectations. The return of Kai Po Che famed director to screen. And Rekha playing Ms. Havisham!
Nay: None
