Man suspected of coronavirus jumps off Safdarjung Hospital building, dies

The man, a resident of Punjab's Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, had returned from Sydney only on Wednesday and was admitted to the facility by airport authorities.

A man suspected to be infected with coronavirus allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a Safdarjung Hospital building on Wednesday, Delhi Police said. 

The man, a resident of Punjab's Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, jumped off the seventh floor of SSB building where COVID-19 patients have been kept, police said.

He had returned from Sydney only on Wednesday and was admitted to the facility by airport authorities.

Police said he had been living in Sydney for a year and had returned to Delhi on an Air India flight. He had complained of headache, they said. 

He was brought to the hospital by the IGI Airport authorities as a coronavirus suspect and was immediately put in the isolation ward, reports quoting hospital sources said.

His samples had been taken and sent for testing, but the results are awaited.

He forced open the isolation ward and jumped off the seventh floor of the building.
