It has been nearly a year since the world of cricket last witnessed the incredible talent of Jasprit Bumrah. Plagued by a recurring back injury, Bumrah was forced to sit out of India's crucial matches, including the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup, and the WTC final in June. Furthermore, he was unable to participate in the entire IPL 2023 season. However, the star Indian pacer is now ready to make a triumphant return to the field, donning the Indian colors once again, as a second-string side prepares to face Ireland in a thrilling T20I series later this month.

The initial signs of Bumrah's injury emerged during the summer of 2022, resulting in his absence from the Asia Cup. In a hasty attempt to bring him back for the World T20, the BCCI rushed his recovery, ultimately exacerbating the damage. This was evident when the right-arm fast bowler returned to action during the home series against Australia, only to aggravate his injury further. Consequently, Bumrah was forced to miss the remainder of India's fixtures until August 2023.

Next week, Jasprit Bumrah will depart from India for Ireland to participate in a three-match T20I series commencing on August 18 and concluding on the 23rd of the same month. All matches are scheduled to take place at the prestigious Malahide Cricket Club. Prior to this significant series and his highly anticipated comeback, Bumrah showcased his exceptional skills during intense training sessions at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, where he spent the majority of his rehabilitation period. His performance at the nets indicated that he is in perfect form and ready for the upcoming matches, delivering his deliveries with incredible speed and precision.

In addition to the excitement surrounding Bumrah's return to the Indian team, there is also a buzz about the new responsibility bestowed upon the 29-year-old. This series marks his debut as the leader of the Indian side in white-ball cricket. Previously, he captained the team only once, during the rescheduled England Test match last year in the 2020 series, where he impressively claimed five wickets across two innings.

However, Bumrah will be without the presence of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. In fact, the only players joining him from the ongoing West Indies assignment to Ireland will be Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, Mukesh Kumar, Ravi Bishnoi, and Arshdeep Singh.

Squad for Ireland T20Is: Jasprit Bumrah (c), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Sanju Samson (wk), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed, Ravi Bishnoi, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Avesh Khan.
