Kolkata Night Riders made Australia pacer Pat Cummins the most expensive overseas player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Rs 15.5 crore on Thursday (December 19).

While Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals were going head-to-head for the Aussie cricket, the Kolkata franchise jumped in and secured the services of the 26-year-old out of nowhere.

However, Yuvraj Singh’s move to Delhi Daredevils for Rs 16 crore still remains the highest-ever bid in the auctions.

KKR also picked up England's WorldCup-Winning skipper Eoin Morgan for Rs 5.25 crore in the auction.

Taking to Twitter, Knights coach Brandon McCullum shared his delight with the additions and welcomed Eoin and Pat to the side.

"Two outstanding gentlemen will return to @KKRiders! @Eoin16 with his power middle-order game & outstanding leadership help for @DineshKarthik & one of the game’s premier fast bowlers @patcummins30 who I feel was the best player on offer for this years@IPL auction Welcome boys!” McCullum's tweet read.

To this, Cummins replied by saying "Can’t wait Baz”. 

However, the former Kiwi international dropped a cheeky response and told him to take rest from the New Zealand Test series and keep him in top shape for the IPL.

"Think you should rest the remainder of the Nz Test series to make sure you will be in peak condition for the @ipl!!" McCullum's response read.
