When England came out to bat for the second time during the ongoing fourth Test against India, Virat Kohli was in a different mood altogether. He stood almost shoulder to shoulder with English opener with Keaton Jennings and it was evident that the closeness made the latter uncomfortable.

The dismissal of Moeen Ali brought England Captain Joe Root at the crease to join Jennings and he had three Indian slips to welcome him.

According to reports, Kohli left his slip cordon and went closer to Root. Although Kohli was not as close to Root as he was to Jennings earlier, the distance was enough for Root to hear what the Indian captain murmured.

Regular job, running away from three,” Kohli told Root, who came in to bat at No. 4 instead of No. 3, the position where he had batted all summer.

Kohli then turned back to return to the third slip before he slowed down again and shot this to Root, “Unreal man, unreal.” In return, the English skipper just smiled.

There is a history behind this. Root has always expressed about batting at No. 4 and not at No. 3 because he had numbers to back him up while batting at the former spot.

Root averages 52.45 batting at No. 4, while his average in the spot one above is 40.47. He has scored four tons in Test cricket at No. 4 while he has two centuries at No. 3.

Hence, Root has always been reluctant about batting at No. 3 and until last year, he used to get his way out. However, England Coach and management made it very clear earlier this year that Root will have to bat at No. 3 until England find a decent batsman for that crucial spot.
