BCCI announces Team India squad for T20 World Cup; R Ashwin returns, THIS player misses out

India has been placed in Group 2 of the T20 World Cup alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan and two qualifiers.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has announced the Team India squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021 on Wednesday. BCCI secretary Jay Shah along with the chief selector Chetan Sharma announced the 15-member squad as the five-member selection committee met in Mumbai while skipper Virat Kohli joined the meeting from Manchester.

Team India have included five spinners - Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy while Yuzvendra Chahal was the unlucky one to miss out. Another player to miss out on the main squad was Shreyas Iyer, who has been picked as the reserve.

Team India have gone with the trusted trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami as part of the pace attack while the likes of Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur are in the reserves.

Shikhar Dhawan, who was the captain of the Indian team for the Sri Lanka tour, has also been left out while Sanju Samson will also miss the sow[pice event as Ishan Kishan has been picked as the backup wicket-keeper for Rishabh Pant, while KL Rahul serving as the third wicket-keeping option.

Apart from the squad, another man that has been recalled to the Indian team was former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who returns to the national side as the mentor for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE and Oman.

Reserves: Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur

The Virat Kohli-led team will start their campaign against neighbours Pakistan. The Men in Blue will be playing all but one of their four matches at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. They will take on Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

November 3: India vs Afghanistan (Abu Dhabi)

November 5: India vs Qualifier - B1 (Dubai)

November 8: India vs Qualifier - A2 (Dubai)
