Jatin Paranjpe was once compared to none other than Sachin Tendulkar. He was among Indian cricket’s most promising newcomers in the 90s. But years down the lane, the Maharashtra cricketer has built a successful entrepreneurial career after cricket.

The stylish left-handed batter was a rising star in his youth and showed a lot of promise. He shot to fame at a time when the Indian batting lineup was overflowing with stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and Mohd Azharuddin. Despite such formidable competition, Paranjpe powered through to bag a spot in the international line up on the back of impressive domestic performances.

The 1972-born cricketer learnt his trait in the same junior circuits which produced one of India’s greatest batters in Tendulkar. But not many know that he once even pipped Sachin by winning the Bombay Cricket Association’s Junior Cricketer of the Year award for 1986-87 as the master blaster came in just behind Paranjpe.

The southpaw batter’s Ranji Trophy career started in 1991-92 season. After around 6 years of establishing himself as an ace domestic cricketer, Paranjpe received his India call up in 1998.; His most memorable outing for India came against Pakistan in the Sahara Cup in Toronto, Canada in 1998 as he helped India win with an unbeaten 23-run knock. But an ankle injury struck soon after and his India career ended before time with just 4 ODI matches.

In his second innings, Paranjpe became a successful businessman. His first venture was SportsOne India. The big shift from batting to business came when Nike roped him in for Europe expansion. That led to Paranjpe founding his multi-crore business KheloMore in 2017. His firm is backed by investors like Dream11 and Ashwin Damera. Paranjpe got married to Bollywood star Sonali Bendre’s sister Gandhali. Paranjpe has also served as a BCCI selector.
