Reliance Infra gets $1.6 billion power plant order

Reliance Infrastructure said on Thursday it has secured an order worth Rs72 billion ($1.6 billion) to build a 2,400MW power plant in Andhr a Pradesh for group firm Reliance Power.

Reliance Infrastructure said on Thursday it has secured an order worth Rs72 billion ($1.6 billion) to build a 2,400MW power plant in Andhra Pradesh for group firm Reliance Power.

Both companies are controlled by billionaire Anil Ambani.

Reliance Power is setting up the gas-based power plant at Samalkot in Andhra Pradesh, with generation expected by end-2011.

With this contract, Reliance Infrastructure said its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) order backlog stood at Rs307 billion.
($1 = 45.18 Indian rupees)
