Former chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI) Rajnish Kumar has been appointed the Chairman of Mastercard India, the payments technology company stated on Thursday. Kumar’s role will be a non-executive advisory, albeit a critical one, the company added.
Kumar will assist the division president for South Asia and country corporate officer for India, Gautam Aggarwal, in navigating the domestic payments landscape, Mastercard said in a statement.
For nearly four decades, Kumar was with SBI, and handled key operations across India and internationally. He is also widely credited for spearheading the YONO platform. In October 2020, he concluded his three-year term as SBI Chairman.
Rajnish Kumar holds several directorships, including seats on the boards of corporate giants such as HSBC Asia Pacific, L&T, and Brookfield Property Management, despite the fact that his areas of specialisation are corporate credit and project finance. He also serves as the chairman of the boards of both BharatPe and the leading management institute MDI, Gurgaon.
