Ahmedabad: Heritage theme for 141st rath yatra of Lord Jagannath

This will be the first rath yatra to be held, after a part of the city was included by UNESCO on the list of world heritage cities

Upcoming annual rath yatra of Lord Jagannath, slated for July 14, will be held on the heritage theme.

The announcement was made by mayor Bijal Patel on Thursday. This will be the first rath yatra to be held, after a part of the city was included by UNESCO on the list of world heritage cities and accordingly, the theme of the procession this year, will be heritage.

"Rath yatra, this year, will have a heritage theme. There will be touch of heritage to the decoration and route of the procession. We are going to have one tableau of heritage monuments in the city during the procession. Also, we are going to illuminate all the heritage structures which are on the route of the yatra," said Patel, adding, "Across the streets, buildings will carry messages regarding heritage pride."

The police will monitor the procession's route using CCTV cameras.

In a Standing Committee meeting held on Thursday, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials said that the heritage structures will be illuminated on a permanent basis.

"We have undertaken the work of illuminating heritage monuments on a permanent basis. We are going to illuminate Kalupur temple, Sardar Bridge, Nehru Bridge, Vivekanand Brid-ge and Kankaria Lakefront," said Standing Co-mmittee Chairman Amul Bhatt.
