Verbal preparation for the GMAT

What more can a student ask from an exam. It is at once relatively easy and supremely difficult. A student who is well prepared can take a walk in the GMAT Park.

The GMAT is one fine game that I ask all the students to play; a precision in strategy, the power of concentration, the patience at stake and an algorithm that promises challenge as you move through the levels. What more can a student ask from an exam. It is at once relatively easy and supremely difficult. A student who is well prepared can take a walk in the GMAT Park.

The GMAT Verbal Prep Model
There is nothing worse than having to complete applications while studying for the GMAT. Writing essays, managing recommenders, and completing data sheets are time consuming enough, without the requisite hours of GMAT preparation. We suggest that you begin your preparation course or independent studying at least six months before you plan on starting your applications.

The ideal way to prepare for the GMAT Verbal is to learn a multifaceted and proven strategy first, then perfect that strategy with lots of sample questions. Students who jump right to the second part of the equation typically repeat the same errors, reinforcing their bad habits instead of correcting them.

We have noticed that the Verbal Section poses a threat for most students specially Sentence Correction. Students struggle with esoteric rules of grammar.  The GMAT always prefers the sentence that expresses intended ideas most clearly and succinctly. Although style is not usually the only thing that makes an answer choice correct, you can often use style elements such as brevity, redundancy or altered intent to eliminate wrong answer choices.  Apply this.

Read the Original Sentence, looking carefully for typical Sentence Correction errors. If the sentence appears to be error free, you should still read all of the answer choices.  Often the answer choices can reveal clues about a potential error - simply examine them for differences.  The words that vary from answer choice to answer choice are the places where errors can be detected.

After you have reviewed the answer choices, if you still think the sentence is fine, mark the top answer choice.  When you are uncertain, eliminate all answer choices that make the same mistake as the original sentence.  Process of elimination is not useful in every situation, but it is extraordinarily helpful in navigating through Sentence Correction problems.

Reading Comprehension, on the other hand, takes time to master. Students develop reading skills over a long period of time, particularly non-native English speakers. There is no ideal reading topic; on the contrary, read everything that comes your way. Passages are generally from Social Science, Natural Science and Business issues. You will only see these three subjects on the GMAT, but you should treat all passages exactly the same.

The test-makers want to learn about your critical reasoning skills.  Because prior knowledge of a subject could give you an artificial advantage, they have selected passages that contain the same elements: a main point, supported by evidence or arguments, written with a particular tone.  Your job is to find those elements, no matter the topic of the passage. A sound knowledge in Critical Reasoning will enhance accuracy skills in the
Reading Comprehension because the 'CR' expanded in structure makes an 'RC'. The reasoning applied to both the sections are similar.

The final evil is procrastination. One of the benefits of taking a GMAT preparation course is the strategies and exam shortcuts that are discussed. The courses do a good job of describing how you should approach the exam and the strategy to handle the time constraint.

You require a fast and effective preparation. It does not matter if you are good in a particular subject - what matters are the time management strategies. The best brains often choke under time constraints. To close the box, GMAT can be cracked easily; you just have to know where and how relentlessly to hit it. Strategies work only when the subject foundation is strong. We make sure that our students acquire both the skills under the guidance of our experts. "Welcome to the game called GMAT."
