WhatsApp likely to launch multi-device support feature for secondary Android, iOS devices - Details inside

WhatsApp is reportedly working on expanding its multi-device feature so that users can access the messaging app on multiple devices on Android and iOS. The feature is currently available in beta as an opt-in offering for WhatsApp Web, desktop, and Facebook portal. 

This offer allows WhatsApp to function on secondary devices when the primary phone does not have an active internet connection. According to the report, the feature might be rolled out for Android and iPad initially for expanding multi-device support. But, the feature can also be available on Android, iOS devices letting users use WhatsApp with a single account on multiple phones. 

The platform is currently testing an update on its existing multi-device feature, multi-device 2.0, for Android, iOS devices, said a report by WABetaInfo, which tracks WhatsApp features. 

A screenshot, shared by a source, suggested that WhatsApp messages can be downloaded on mobile devices from the server when a user would open WhatsApp on the device for the first time, WABetaInfo reported. 

The instant messaging platform had started testing its multi-device feature in beta for users using WhatsApp on their desktop, Web browser and Facebook Portal. Users can use WhatsApp up to four of these secondary devices, even when the phone does not have an active internet connection or is close proximity. 

The feature is currently under development for release on a WhatsApp for iOS beta version and it is also working on the Android version, WABetaInfo reported.
