Russian tennis ace Maria Sharapova has reportedly slammed on-court rival Serena Williams for dating a married men with children, in response to critical comments directed by Williams to an unnamed player, supposedly Sharapova, in a recent Rolling Stone article.
Williams has been linked to her married coach Patrick Mouratoglou, although neither has confirmed that their relationship extends beyond the court, the New York Post reports.
Criticising Williams for having an alleged relationship with a married man with children, Sharapova said that although she has a great respect for Williams for her on-court accomplishments, she felt that the American should be taking more about them instead of making comments to attract controversy and attention.
The World No3 further said that if Williams wanted to talk about something personal, then she should clarify her relationship with her married boyfriend, hinting that the man may be getting divorced because of his relationship with the World No1.
According to the Rolling Stone article, the 16-time Grand Slam winner had spoken disparagingly about what has been described as a 'top-five player who is now in love', saying that the unnamed player is boring and begins every interview with ''I'm so happy. I'm so lucky'.
Williams had further stated that the player will never be invited to the 'cool' parties, adding that she wished her luck for dating the 'guy with a black heart', with the report adding that Williams' comments were followed by words, hinting that she may have been talking about Sharapova, who is now dating Grigor Dimitrov, one of her rumoured former boyfriends.
Meanwhile, Sharapova has also slammed Williams for her controversial comments about a teenage US rape victim, saying that she was saddened by the entire case.
