On Wednesday, October 4, India's Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Ojas Deotale secured the gold medal in the compound mixed team event in archery. The dynamic duo emerged victorious with a score of 159-158 against the South Korean pair of So Chaewon and Joo Jaehoon at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre Final Field.

This remarkable achievement not only brought glory to India but also marked their highest medal count in the history of the Asian Games. Surpassing their previous record of 70 medals at the 2018 Jakarta Games, India now boasts an impressive total of 71 medals. Furthermore, they matched their best gold medal tally of 16, a feat accomplished four years ago.

Jyothi and Ojas faced an arduous battle to claim the gold medal. After the first round, India held a narrow lead of 40-39. They managed to maintain their advantage in the second round, with the scorecard showing 80-79. However, a slight stumble from Ojas in the third round allowed their opponents to snatch the lead.

With the score tied at 119-119, the outcome of the match hung in the balance. South Korea's So faltered, shooting a nine, which propelled India back into the lead. Although South Korea delivered two consecutive perfect shots, India remained resolute and prevented any chance of a comeback.

Jyothi and Ojas kicked off their day with a brilliant victory over the Malaysian pair of Binti Mat Salleh Fatin Nurfatehah and Bin Muzuki Mohd Juwaidi, triumphing with a score of 158-155. This win secured their place on the podium and guaranteed them a medal.

India has now won 16 gold, 26 silver, and 29 bronze medals in the Hangzhou Games, with a promising opportunity to further increase their tally. Meanwhile, China dominates the leaderboard with an impressive count of 164 golds, 90 silvers, and 46 bronze medals. Following closely behind, Japan and South Korea secure the second and third positions, respectively.
