Aditi Ashok is the first Indian woman to win a medal in golf at the Asian Games.
Indian golf star Aditi Ashok made history on Sunday by securing a silver medal for India at the Asian Games 2023, narrowly missing out on the gold in Hangzhou. Aditi finished the four-round event with an impressive score of 17 under 271, earning her the second-place prize. Thailand's Arpichaya Yubol surpassed Aditi to claim the gold medal with a score of 19 under 269.
Aditi had been a strong contender for the gold medal on the final day, holding a seven-stroke lead over Yubol, who was in second place before the fourth round. The 25-year-old Indian golfer had an outstanding score of 22-under 194 after the first three rounds, putting her seven shots ahead of Yubol. However, she had a disappointing final day, finishing with a score of 5 over 77.
It is worth noting that Aditi Ashok is the first Indian woman to win a medal in golf at the Asian Games. While India had previously won six medals at this prestigious event, all of them were won by men. This achievement marks India's first medal in golf at the Asian Games in 13 years, with their last medal being secured in 2010.
The Indian men's and women's shooting teams achieved remarkable success in the trap events, securing Gold and Silver medals, respectively. In the Men's Trap Team event, Kynan Chenai, Zoravar Sandhu, and Prithviraj Tondaiman displayed exceptional skill and determination, ultimately clinching the prestigious Gold medal. This victory added to India's impressive medal tally at the Asiad, further solidifying their dominance in the shooting discipline.
Similarly, the Women's Trap Team, consisting of Manisha Keer, Rajeshwari Kumari, and Preeti Rajak, showcased their exceptional talent and teamwork, earning a well-deserved Silver medal. Their outstanding performance marked a strong start for India on Day 8 of the Games, further highlighting the nation's prowess in shooting.
