A former treasurer of Abhinav Bharat was on Sunday questioned by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) with regards to his alleged role in the Malegaon bomb blast which took place on September 29.

The former treasurer who has been identified as Sarang Kulkarni is also the younger brother of Sameer Kulkarni who was arrested by the ATS last week. Sarang, said an ATS officer, lives in the Pimpri area of Pune with his family.

The officer further said that Sarang is likely to be brought to Mumbai for further questioning. The ATS alleged  that Sarang, who is a graduate, has been closely associated with several right-wing organisations.

“Sarang would regularly visit his brother Sameer in Bhopal where he reportedly met Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Shivnarayan Singh Kalsangram and Shyam Bhawarlal Sahu,” said the officer.  The ATS is also trying to find out if Sarang had attended any meetings in Bhopal.

Meanwhile, former army officer SS Raikar was asked to go home by ATS after three days of questioning.

Sadhvi not a terrorist: Making its stand clear on the Sadhvi-terror link issue, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said it is not  prepared to accept the claim that
Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur is a terrorist.

“Let the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) provide sufficient evidence on her involvement in the Malegaon explosion,” said BJP national president Rajnath Singh.

Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, Singh said the ATS should make all evidence against Thakur public. “Public has all the right to know why the Sadhvi has been arrested and what are the allegations made against her,”  he said.

“Until she is proved guilty in the court of law, the Sadhvi should not be branded a terrorist,” said Singh.

He further said that the VHP and Bajrang Dal should not be banned. “They are not anti-national,” he said. According to him, until Bangladeshi immigrants and SIMI was not banned, the problem of terrorism cannot be solved. “The Centre has failed in tackling internal and external security,” he said.

Singh also demanded that  a central law should be enacted to ban the conversion through allurement or any sort of inducement.
