The residents of Dombivli celebrated Gudi Padwa with much zeal and fervour on Saturday. The festivities began with Swagat Yatra in the morning where over 10,000 residents participated.

The yatra started off with a palkhi of Lord Ganesha at 6 am from Bhagshala Maidaan and proceeded towards Dombivli east and west. Over 10 dhol tasha pathaks (bands) performed in the yatra. "The pathaks performing at various chowks welcomed the palkhi and enthralled the onlookers," said Suhas Ambekar, treasurer of the Sansthan.

Many residents gathered to witness this musical fiesta, dressed in traditional Maharashtrian attire. More than 50 floats (jhaanki) joined the yatra. Dombivli Cycle Club was the first to join in.

About 40 girls from Kashmir from HUM, an NGO also participated in the event. Another highlight of the event was a bike rally and a function 'ek diva sainikansathi' that paid tribute to the CRPF jawans killed in Pulwama attack by lighting lamps at gardens, schools, colleges and even their homes.
