The Opposition parties were demanding an alternative such as c to deal with the crisis and also to ensure proper water supply during Diwali
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's house meeting on Friday saw much commotion as all corporators agitated against an alleged water cut in the city. Though there isn't any official report on a reduced water supply, several areas have been complaining of the same lately.
The Opposition parties were demanding an alternative such as rainwater harvesting to deal with the crisis and also to ensure proper water supply during Diwali.
Usually, when the city lakes are full, the civic body doesn't impose a water cut. Though they haven't declared anything on the lines yet this year, many citizens have been complaining of insufficient water supply.
Ward A, consisting of Churchgate, Colaba, and Fort has been reeling under water scarcity for the past one month. Even areas like Bandra west, where the BMC started a pilot project to supply water through out the day, faced the heat of low pressure and inadequate water.
On Friday Saida Khan, Nationalist Congress Party corporator from Kurla raised the issue in the meeting. Opposition Leader Ravi Raja demanded uncut water supply during Diwali. All the Opposition leaders and corporators backed their claims and walk out of the meeting eventually.
Meanwhile, complaints of water contamination, especially in south Mumbai, have been doing the round. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is trying to improve the network to tackle the issue of leakage and contamination in Dadar, Mahalaxmi, Wadala, Parel, and Tardeo area.
The civic body doesn't have an account of 25 per cent of water it supplies to the city. Most of the unaccounted water goes waste through leakages, which are the source of contamination too.
