Ministry of external affairs (MoEF) has told the Bombay high court that it may not be able to extend its oral undertaking to the court for not demolishing Adarsh building beyond June 27.

This was conveyed by additional solicitor general Darius Khambata to justice Ranjana Desai, who met advocates of the Adarsh and respondents, in chamber to pass directions. Adarsh Society’s challenge to the MoEF’s June 16 demolition order is slated for final hearing on June 27.

Justice Desai said that all respondents should file affidavits, pointing out that some had not done yet. It was then Khambata said that the court must fix a date for filing of all affidavits so that the matter can proceed. “Although a status quo is on, I cannot extend my statement beyond June 27. Besides it was not a formal statement,’’ he added.
