When deciding what accessories to wear, always keep in mind the occasion. For formal dos, it best to keep it subtle, while for informal events you could experiment with different sorts.

Depending on the occasion you can either wear fine or semi-precious jewellery. Weddings in India are about colour and great statement pieces. For such events choose fine or costume jewellery to enhance your outfit. Wearing tiny pieces will not complement your wedding attire much. For everyday wear, night parties, you can put on some semi-precious ones.

Wear your accessories according to your choice of outfit. Don’t club an overwhelming neckpiece with a quiet western outfit, as that may appear jarring.

Keep in mind the climatic conditions, when choosing your accessories. If you wear too much jewellery during a day event, it might make you feel suffocated. Also, incase you are wearing jewellery that is artificially coloured, in a region with moist climate, it make leave marks on the skin. So, make sure you carry tissue, in case you see colour running all over your neck!

Choose shimmer jewellery for night events and bright or pastel shades for day ones.

Don’t blindly follow jewellery trends, as they might not be the answer to your fashion statement. When putting together the look, keep a mix of classics and the new.

Wear jewellery according to your body frame and face structure. For long neck and round face, try long or midsize earnings, while avoiding anything that is circular in shape.

If you are planning to attend a big event, keep enough time in hand to plan what jewellery to wear. Last minute rush could end up in a fashion faux pas. Also, always keep three to four classic or timeless pieces in your collection that go with all outfits and can save any day.

Store your jewellery in boxes, wrapped in tissues or soft cloth. Jewellery and accessories can break easily if kept haphazardly.

Lastly, never overload your outfit with too many accessories. The aim is to complete and complement your ensemble and not appear out of sync.
