BJP and Congress leaders at Rajasthan indulge in race to associate each other with mythological notorious characters. A day after BJP leader Gyandev Ahuja compared Priyanka Gandhi with ‘she-monsters’, Rajasthan Congress retaliated with terming him as ‘Ravan’ in an official statement on Saturday. “Ahuja has been playing character of Ravan at local Ramleela and the character has become part of his character,” stated an official release from the Rajasthan Congress.

The statement said that comments of Ahuja on Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi reflected upon the fascist ideology of his party BJP and has come to deteriorate politics of the state. Even as the Congress alleged BJP of ‘crooked’ mentality over statements of Ahuja, it demanded the party to initiate strict action against the ‘bad-mouth’ leader.

Coincidentally, the BJP leader also acts for local Ramleela (dramatic presentation of Ramayana) and happens to play the lead negative character of Ravan. The state Congress used the reference to respond upon his statement in a similar tone.

Ahuja, during a public meeting on Friday, had compared the Congress general secretary with three negative female characters of Putna, Surpanakha and Holika that have come to save their villainous brother.

It is, however, not for the first time that comments of Gyan Dev Ahuja have triggered controversy. He had been on target of the opponents for statements in support of alleged ‘cow vigilantes’ and apprehending communities on ‘love jihad’. He had also drawn upon attention over his opinion on ‘condoms’ at Jawahar Lal Nehru university.

While, his comments come to amusement of his supporters, it’s often a cause of embarrassment for the party. Congress has also alleged that the smear attacks of Ahuja including the recent comments on Priyanka Gandhi were intended to draw cheap publicity.
